Beginners Botanical Watercolour Art Classes

Sunday 6th, Sunday 27th & Thursday 31st July 2025

Sue McHugh, is a Fellow of the Society of Botanical Artists and is the current Artist in Residence at Knowsley Hall is hosting a series of 2 hour, relaxed botanical watercolour art classes, aimed at beginners in the Coach House at Arley each month throughout the year.

Each workshop last 2 hours.

£45pp and includes a hot drink & cake as well as access to the gardens (normally £12) and parking (normally £3).

10 places per session so booking is essential.

The workshop requires no experience and the easy-to-follow process will walk you through the key steps to producing realistic botanical watercolours with real impact!

All professional art materials will be provided, just turn up!

What you will learn:

- Key elements of botanical illustration
- The art materials Sue uses
- Selecting your botanical specimen to paint
- Composition and common elements of botanical layouts
- Sue's easy-to-follow step-by-step watercolour technique

Sue's aim is to share her love for botanical watercolours and to demystify the key stages to creating successful paintings.

Hall Open

Entry to the Hall will be from 10am – 5pm (last entry 4.30pm). Adult £6.50, Child (4-16) £3, Family (2 adults & up to 3 children) £17. No need to book.

Children's Outdoor Theatre – Alice Through The Looking Glass

Quantum Theatre bring their lively brand of comedy, music and magic to Lewis Carroll’s timeless classic, Alice Through the Looking Glass for Summer 2025. With live music and the full array of Carroll’s fantastical characters this delightful new adaptation delivers all the quirky Britishness and humour of the book in a fun and pacy show for all the family.

The performance, in the East garden, is not normally open to the public giving you the opportunity to see The Hall and park land from a different perspective while you watch the play. It is the perfect way to introduce children to live theatre in this relaxed and informal setting.

Bring along a rug to sit on.

Outdoor Theatre In The Walled Garden - Sense and Sensibility

Thursday 17th July 2025

The Pantaloons are a vibrant and anarchic theatre company whose style draws from a wide variety of popular theatre traditions from commedia dell’arte and clowning to stand-up comedy and silent movies. They will be presenting Sense and Sensibility.

Bring a picnic and something to sit on!

The performance runs from 7pm- 9pm. You can visit the gardens from 6pm until the performance starts at 7pm and then again during the 15 minute interval at around 8.15.

Tickets will be available soon but include garden entry, free parking and are available to purchase on the night.

Toilets can be found on the stable yard.

This event is not suitable for dogs.

Hand Made In The UK - Artisan Show

This Artisan Show at Arley will showcase a collection of high quality Artisans and Makers from across the country. It will present an array of Artisans and Makers carefully hand picked to showcase the very best of British Craftsmanship.

Wedding Open Day

Sunday 27th July 2025

Come along and see the magnificent Hall set up for a wedding. Your wedding can be as grand or as intimate as you would like. Chat to the Arley staff who will be able to answer any questions you may have about any part of your special day. There are various locations at Arley where you can get married, from inside The Hall, in the Gardens in our award winning double herbaceous border or in the historic Cruck Barn, making it your choice.

You can see them all at this open day. A selection of our highly recommended suppliers will be here, each supplier has worked with Arley before and so we know you will get an excellent service. If you are not familiar with the format of a wedding ceremony, together with the Cheshire East Registrars you can go through the main points so you will know what to expect.
